| An intensive sailing program designed
to teach advanced theory, racing rules, racing, tactics and qualify
these students for the Silver Sail Level.
A C.Y.A. qualified coach, who will instruct students and coach
them on the racecourse, directs this programme.
Boats
The program will be taught using the Club supplied Club 420's sailboats.
These are high performance, expensive racing dinghies. The Beaconsfield
Yacht Club believes it is important to supply these quality boats
to students in order to improve their skills, encourage their continued
participation in sailing, while maintaining affordability and accessibility
for all. Along with this commitment from BYC comes the need for
a commitment from the students. Each student will be expected to
treat the equipment as if it were his or her own. The club will
reserve the right to charge participants for damage done to the
equipment resulting from negligence or carelessness, to a maximum
of $500.00 per boat crew member.
Participation
Students are required to compete on a regular basis. In addition
to the daytime program, participation in other racing events is
expected. Participation in evening club racing and weekend regattas
around the lake is encouraged. In addition trips to other cities
may be planned, participation in these trips will be dependent upon
level of participation in the local events and family support. We
encourage students to seriously consider enrolling for both sessions.
"The Silver Sail" curriculum is very demanding and will
easily require two or more sessions to achieve.
Schedule
Two sessions are offered for the coming season. Participation is
limited to 10 students per session due to the limit of 5 C420 boats supplied
by the club. The possibility of "bring your own boat"
participation is there, however this must be discussed in advance
with the club manager.
Membership
All students will be required to be club members. The junior fee
for the 2012 season is $88.00 less discount of 15% = $75.00.
Eligibility
- For those squadron students who have completed CYA
level Bronze V.
- For those students who have completed CYA Silver Level VI who
wish to continue in a competitive sailing environment.
